Frequently Asked Questions

ARE THE MATERIALS USED BY 3D PRINTING ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY?

PLA, the most frequently used material in our printing, is bio-sourced and biodegradable. The same is not true for the other filaments which are, for the most part, derived from fossil fuels. However, more and more filament manufacturing companies are working on the subject in order to produce materials made from recycled plastic.

IS 3D PRINTING TECHNOLOGY ECOLOGICAL?

In general, 3D printing technology brings several advantages in terms of ecology and the environment:

  • The proximity between the local production of parts and the customer drastically reduces transport and its pollution

  • Only what is necessary is printed, unlike chain production which will systematically generate waste through its unsold items.

  • No more storage in energy-consuming warehouses is necessary; the parts to be printed, stored virtually, are ready to be reproduced at any time

  • Fight against planned obsolescence; 3D printing makes it possible to print very specific parts to repair devices and which are (often voluntarily) not found in order to encourage the purchase of new devices

  • Extends the life of devices; modeling broken parts of a device or reinforcing an already existing part can extend the life of devices and therefore reduce their frequency of purchase

Whether directly or indirectly, 3D printing has a positive effect on the issue of the environment.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO PRINT AN OBJECT?

The printing time for an object will vary depending on a multitude of criteria. But to give an idea, printing a standard full cube with 20% infill of 5cm x 5cm x 5cm will take around 4 to 5 hours.

CAN A PRINT BE MULTI-COLORED?

Yes. There are several ways to have objects of several colors:

In addition to this, you need to know more about it.

  1. The same object can be printed in several parts of different colors to then be assembled

  2. Thanks to professional printers it is possible to mix two colors in the same print. 3dforge.ch offers you this possibility.

  3. Certain materials can be purchased with a gradient of colors whose impressive rendering on large prints such as vases
